What if mental health & wellness recovery looked like your favorite pair of sweat pants and felt like your coziest softest blanket?
I myself often describe the road to recovery as HARD and uncomfortable as wearing hard pants in public. But what makes it hard? Is there a softer way for us to approach our recovery? Could we find a way to make ourselves a little more comfortable?
I believe the answer is yes.
The longest part of the recovery journey for me was finding my way to self acceptance. This led me to finding the right people, those that I could truly be myself around. The me without the mask.
These friends are the ones who are with me in the good, the bad, and the ugly times. They are also the ones who allow me to be with them in all those same places. These relationships are truly reciprocal.
I have found this journey to be the hardest when I am trying to go it alone. As I have opened up and shared about my mental health challenges, I have found others with similar lived experiences to walk this path with me. Sharing the load together makes it feel less unbearable.
Two of the greatest enemies to self acceptance and real community are shame and stigma. This devastating duo thrives in isolation. On my path I have found these to be the heaviest weights to bear.
As someone who can be in her head a lot, it helps to have my people who can pull me out of my lonely cave. Being silly and laughing together is the best medicine for the soul.

Joining me this week on the podcast is one of my people, and dear friend Katie Omri. Katie and I met as I was beginning to practice self acceptance in community. Katie was a breath of fresh air for me. She has been a catalyst for Living Table and creating safe spaces to talk about our mental health & wellness. With her own lived experience of mental health and wellness recovery along with her amazing sense of humor Katie makes people feel seen and accepted right where they are. ❤️
Grab your emotional support coffee and listen in [hard pants not required 😂]
